As many mom’s can attest, having a child really takes its toll on one’s body. New Mom, Tameka Raymond, wife of American R&B singer Usher Raymond, recently went to Brazil to have cosmetic surgery to help regain her pre-baby body. While under anesthesia Tameka went into cardiac arrest as a complication associated with the anesthesia. Fortunately this is a reality that many of us may never experience. While rare, it does happen.

You may recall the death of Donda West, Kanye West’s mother, who died while under anesthesia while undergoing cosmetic surgery. Death is tragic in any case, even more so when unexpected and with unanswered questions and “what ifs”. As many of you may already know, with West, she was denied to have surgery by another plastic surgeon.

Temeka Raymond chose to have liposuction surgery only 2 months after the birth of her 5th child, even though it was recommended to wait to have cosmetic surgery no earlier than 8 months afterwards. Raymond apparently suffered a heart attack in the interim of the operation while be anesthetized. Raymond was transferred to Brazil’s Sao Paulo’s Sirio-Libanes Hospital placed in a chemically induced comatose state for 24 hours to allow her body to heal it'self. She recovered for 11 days at Sao Paulo’s  under the care of Neurosurgeon, Gabriel Hunt, M.D. who flew in from Cedars-Sinai Medical Centerr until she was released Thursday.  Raymond seemed in good spirts and health.

I can not stress enough to you the importance of a physical and proper lab work before a plastic surgery procedure. Although many precautions are taken, and problems can still exist, a full physical and EKG and can help your doctor determine if your heart is strong enough for surgery. The body is put under a lot of stress during anesthesia and the traumas of surgery it'self. A little extra expense and time is well worth the benefit should a problem be likely to arise. Not that I am saying Raymond did not have lab work or an EKG,as this is unknown, and complications can still happen regardless. However, this safety net can help your surgeon determine if your chances of a heart complication may occur, So even if your doctor does not recommend a check up, it is very smart to do so. I was 34 at the time of my last surgery and I was instructed to have a full physical, labwork, mammogram, and EKG.

Unlike Donda West.Raymond was very lucky, Please read Valerie’s article on Donda West to research more information on the safety statistics and what you can do to better your chances of a safe plastic surgery journey.

Much debate has arisen over the recent birth of Octuplets by Nadya Suleman. From the scrutiny of the fertility clinic, to Suleman’s already existing children (14 total now!) to the taxes allocated for assistance, even to the concerns on the impact of fertility treatments on a global level. But, we’ll leave the serious drama to the other blogs and papers. Let’s talk about Suleman’s eerie resemblance to Angelina Jolie!

Although Suleman denies she specifically went into her plastic surgeon to look like Angelina Jolie, she certainly seems to have had the right procedures if that was her goal. It seems not only is Suleman attempting to create a large Angelina Jolie-type family, she appears to have altered her face and injected her lips to mimic the actress. Her cheeks, eyebrow arch, her nose—even her hair! is a striking likeness one cannot deny. Next she’ll be wearing blue contacts or getting ocular implants such as NewColor Iris.

Check out the “before” photos of Nadya Suleman.

And now the “after”!

So which procedures do you think she’s had? Definitely cheeks, brow lift, a rhinoplasty, and definitely lips would be my guess. Whatever the debate, or my feelings on the subject, when it comes to cosmetic surgery, she doesn’t look all that bad.
