Buttock augmentation — all forms of it — is surgery, and all surgery carries risks. The seriousness of the risks and the types of risk involved depend on whether the procedure you are undergoing is fat injections (Brazilian butt lift), butt implants or a buttock lift. In addition to the medical risks of these procedures, there is also the risk that you will be dissatisfied with the results of buttock augmentation procedure.
For any type of buttock augmentation, follow your surgeon’s instructions to the letter to reduce the risks of infection or other problems.
General Risks
The general risks of any surgery include excessive bleeding, excessive scarring, formation of blood clots, and reactions to anesthesia.
Because you will be incapacitated for several days to a couple of weeks after your buttock augmentation surgery, the risks of a thromboembolism are increased. A thromboembolism is a blood clot that forms and breaks loose and travels in the bloodstream. If it lodges in the heart, brain, or lungs, there are serious health consequences. Lying still for long periods of time increases the risk of a thromboembolism. This is why you will be told to walk around after your surgery and a few times each day as you recover no matter how much pain you are in.
The incisions for a butt implant are also under great stress because you use the muscles and other structures of your butt in almost everything you do. Walking, moving, and sitting will put a great deal of stress on the implants and the incisions. Although you will be resting a great deal after your surgery, you will still need to move about and walk gently after your surgery. You will be told when you can sit and when you can start resuming your normal activities so that the incisions heal well.
There is the chance that one or both implants may be dislodged. If the implants are dislodged, they will either have to be removed or put back into position surgically.
With any type of buttock augmentation, you may be dissatisfied with the results. You may feel that your butt was not augmented enough or too much, or feel that your implants do not look natural. Or you may be unhappy with the amount of scarring. You can reduce the risk of being unhappy with the results of your surgery by sitting with your surgeon before your surgery and discussing in depth how you want to look afterward.
