Thigh liposuction patients are advised to start walking around as soon as possible after surgery, but to avoid strenuous activities for about 1 month. There will be discomfort, swelling and bruising in the first few weeks after thigh liposuction surgery, but this should subside. Pain can be alleviated through the use of prescription pain medications, and swelling and bruising can be minimized through the use of cold compresses.
Liposuction patients are usually told to wear a compression garment over the treatment area after the procedure. This is like a girdle and will help control swelling and will also assist your body in healing along your newly defined tissue contours. Your surgeon may give you one of these garments or you may be told to purchase one. Purchase it in advance of your surgery.
Most people are able to return to work about 2 weeks after their thigh liposuction, but this depends on how much fat is being removed and on how active they are on their job. Your surgeon will give you specific instructions on when you can return to your normal activities.
