What is a thread lift?
A thread lift is a new form of minimally invasive cosmetic procedure to smooth the face, reduce wrinkles, and give a more youthful appearance. In a thread lift, a physician inserts special sutures with barbs along their length under the skin of the face. The threads are placed in areas of sagging skin to pull and lift the skin into a more youthful look.

Are there different brands of threads used?
Yes. There are currently two brands, Contour ThreadLift and FeatherLift®, which is also called Aptos. The different brands of threads are slightly different in structure and material, but the procedure is the same.

What is the difference between a regular face lift and a thread face lift?
A regular face lift is an invasive surgical procedure. A surgeon makes incisions and moves skin and underlying tissue to create a younger, smoother look. Excess skin is usually removed. A thread lift is minimally invasive and uses special barbed sutures to pull skin into a more pleasing position. The results of a thread lift are more subtle than a traditional face lift. If you need just a little bit of lifting and have only a bit of sagginess, a thread lift may be right for you. If you need more than that, you should consider a surgical face lift.

Is it true I can go back to work right after a thread lift?
No. The idea that a thread lift can be done on your lunch hour and you go back to the office is hype. You may be able to go back to work the next day, but most people need a few days and some need a week depending on how many threads were implanted and how quickly they heal. You will be somewhat swollen and may have some bruises.

How long will the results of a thread lift surgery last?
Thread lift procedures are very new and have only been performed widely for a year or two. No long-term results are available and it is not known how long the results will last. However, results are believed to last 3 to 5 years.
