In the first few days after your jaw augmentation surgery, you may have some dietary restrictions. The incisions for this procedure are in your mouth, and you may have some difficulty chewing or talking for a few days. You will probably be more comfortable eating soft foods and liquids for a couple of days. Avoid any foods with sharp edges that can irritate the incisions.
You can brush your teeth the day after the surgery, but take care to avoid the incisions. Using mouthwash regularly is also recommended to keep the incisions clean as they heal. Your surgeon may have specific recommendations on what brand to use. The sutures will usually dissolve within ten days, but while they are present, they should be handled gently.
Your head will be wrapped with bandaging for a few days to hold the jaw implants in place and help your face heal. This bandaging may be worn at night for a period of time, according to your surgeon’s instructions.
You will be told to avoid strenuous activities for a few weeks, but you can probably return to work a week after surgery.
