For most men, the recovery period after a male face lift is neither too uncomfortable nor long. You may experience some pain at first, but this pain can usually be alleviated with pain medications. If you experience any severe pain, fever or sudden swelling, you should contact your surgeon.

You may have some temporary loss of sensation in the skin around the treatment area. This is normal, and you should not worry unless the numbness persists beyond a few weeks.

You will have bruising and swelling for the first 2 to 3 weeks. The results of your male rhytidectomy surgery may not be completely seen for a few weeks, when your face has healed enough for you to see the improvement in your appearance. You will probably be told to sleep with your head elevated for several days or a week after your surgery to help reduce swelling.

Most surgeons recommend that a man who is recovering from a male face lift avoid strenuous exercise for a few weeks. Your surgeon will tell you when you can return to work. Some people return to work about a week after surgery, but bruising and swelling may still be evident. Your return to work may also depend on how active you are on your job.
