Body Contouring Surgery Overview

Body contouring procedures, for both men and women, have become increasingly popular, due perhaps in part to the rise in gastric bypass surgeries and other weight-loss efforts, as well as to the continual aging of the Baby Boomer generation. Even as the frequency of body contouring surgeries continues to rise, though, most health insurance companies view the procedures as elective surgery and therefore dont cover them. However, people who want sleeker, more youthful appearances can find affordable financing for body contouring procedures.

NewImage.com has guaranteed financing* for as little as $99 down** with
board-certified surgeons in your area. Plus, your first consultation is FREE†.

Body contouring surgery is designed to enhance the appearance of a patient specific body parts, including the arms, thighs, abdomen, lower body, and/or upper body. Common candidates for body contouring procedures are people who have just lost a fair amount of weight and/or have loose skin on certain areas of their body. Please note that virtually all of these procedures result in surgical scars as a result of skin removal. However, patients who undergo these procedures generally prefer the scars over loose, saggy skin.

Arm lifts (brachioplasty) and thigh lifts are often the procedure of choice for patients who've lost a significant amount of weight (100 pounds or more) and, as a result, have loose skin in their arms and/or thighs. After the patient receives general anesthesia or an IV sedation, the surgeon will create an incision on the inside of the patient? arm or leg, remove excess skin, and suture the incision with absorbable stitches. The surgery can last up to two hours, but the patient usually goes home the same day and, while discomfort can last up to two weeks, the patient typically gets back to work within a week.

Tummy tuck surgery, or abdominoplasty, is a procedure performed on people with stretched abdominal muscles (for instance, women who've carried multiple children) and/or fatty deposits that can be removed by diet or exercise. Tummy tuck surgery is not liposuction, although liposuction is sometimes performed in concert with abdominoplasty.

Abdominoplasty is a surgical procedure that removes excess skin and fat from the patient abdominal wall and tightens the patient abdominal muscles. Because tummy tucks are invasive procedures, patients usually stay in the hospital for up to three days and can experience pain and discomfort for several weeks or longer.

A lower body lift is a combination of a tummy tuck and an outer thigh/buttock lift. Ideal candidates for this procedure are women who have had bariatric surgery or who have developed excess skin as a result of pregnancy or significant weight loss. Due to its complex nature, a lower body lift is considered major surgery and can last up to six hours. The patient will remain in the hospital for up to four days and won? go back to work for two to four weeks.

An upper body lift is a combination of an arm lift and a breast lift. Candidates for this procedure tend to be women who've had bariatric surgery or have developed excess skin as a result of pregnancy or significant weight loss.

Breast lift surgery (a.k.a. mastopexy) reshapes the breast to counter the sagging often caused by pregnancy, age, weight changes and other factors.

In a mastopexy, the patient is usually put under general anesthesia. Once the anesthesia has taken hold, the surgeon will remove excess skin from the patient? breasts, then lift and reshape them to create a higher, fuller appearance. If needed, the surgeon will also reposition the nipple and areola to keep a natural look. Breast lift surgery can last up to five hours, but the patient can usually return home the same day and return to work within a week.
