Laser Hair Removal Risks
While laser hair removal is a safe procedure when performed by a qualified doctor, all medical procedures carry a certain amount of risk, and there are inherent risks in any procedure that uses a laser. One risk, of course, is to the eyes, which is why everyone in the treatment room needs to wear protective goggles.

Other risks associated with laser hair removal include:

• Pain, swelling, redness and/or blistering. These symptoms are usually temporary and can be treated with ice, painkillers and/or topical creams. However, if you’re having treatment done on a noticeable area, such as your upper lip or chin, you may want to apply make-up to the area to minimize its prominence.

• Hyperpigmentation. The laser application can cause the skin in the treated area to darken. This generally subsides over time and, depending on the area, may not be noticeable to anyone but you.
  

• Hypopigmentation. Some clients with darker skin may experience a long-lasting lightening of the skin where the hair has been treated. This is the laser works on darker pigmentation and is one reason lazer hair removal works better on light-skinned people.
  
  
• Scarring and burning. These risks are more likely to occur with an inexperienced practitioner. To avoid them, find a qualified practitioner to perform the laser hair removal treatment.

Laser hair removal is not for everyone. Ideal candidates have light to fair skin and dark hair. F or best results, the hair follicles need to be darker than the surrounding skin. Even a tan can affect the results of the laser hair removal procedure, so be sure to consult your physician before undergoing treatment.
