How is a male face lift different than a face lift for a woman?
The actual procedure of a face lift is no different on a man's face than on a woman's face, since the facial structure is not that different. However, there are factors that a cosmetic surgeon needs to take into account, such as beard growth and a receding hairline. Men tend to bleed a bit more during facial surgery, also.

What happens during a consultation with a cosmetic surgeon?
You and your surgeon will talk about what you want from the male face lift surgery. This is the time to ask all the questions you want, including questions about your surgeon's credentials and his or her experience with face lifts on men. If you have specific needs, make them known. Your surgeon will also examine your face and take a detailed medical history. You can also examine before-and-after male face lift photos.

Are there any special risks for a male face lift?
A man having a face lift has a slightly greater chance of heavy bleeding or formation of a pocket of clotted blood called a hematoma. There is also a greater risk that scars may be visible, since men's hairlines may be receding and they may not want to wear camouflaging cosmetics.

Will I look too "feminine" after a male rhytidectomy?
Not if you don't want to. Most men will still look very much like themselves after a male rhytidectomy, just younger. However, you can discuss this issue with your cosmetic surgeon. He or she can make adjustments that can emphasize the masculine structure of your face, if that is what you want.

I don't want people to know I've had a face lift. Will my surgeon be discreet?
Yes. Until recently, most people kept the fact that they had cosmetic surgery quiet, and cosmetic surgeons are very aware that some people want discretion. This is another issue you can discuss with your surgeon during your consultation. Your surgeon can also help you plan the surgery so that any disruption in your life is minimized.
